DESCRIPTION
There was a progressive lightening of the Ponti chair over the years. In 1949 the first chair with a bent back and pointed legs appeared. In 1952 came the highly popular Leggera chair Ponti designed for Cassina, made of ash and very strong and light. If you go to the Cassinas they will give you exciting demonstrations in which these chairs are hurled to dizzy heights, fall to the ground, and bounce, without ever breaking. Finally, in 1957, came the Superleggera chair, that could be lifted with one finger: its struts had a triangular cross-section.(Ponti produced over twenty other designs for chairs for Cassina, over the years.)
